Today we will be showing you how to install a door knob or replace an interior door knob. There are two types of knobs. There is a passage knob which are used on a closet door. This is the knob without the lock. There is a privacy knob which are used on a bathroom or bedroom door. This is the knob with the lock and the one we are replacing.

Start by grabbing a flat driver and on one of the sides of the knob you will see a pin. You will need to push that in with the flat screw driver to remove the knob. Depending on how it is installed the pin may be on the inside knob or the outside. Next slide the screw driver into the notch on the face place and twist the screw driver and remove it. Next grab a cordless drill with a Phillips or flat bit and remove the two screws that hold the knob together. Sometimes these older knobs the back set goes into the knob so you can not remove the knob just yet. You will have to remove the two screws that hold the back set in position. With those screws removed you can now slide the back set out of the knob and then remove the knob from the door.

Once you have the old knob completely removed we can now install the new one. When buying a new lock I try and buy one that has an adjustable back set. What this means is you can make it work in whatever door you have by adjusting the back set from 2 3/8 or to 2 ¾ by sliding it. If you don’t want to buy a knob with an adjustable back set you will need to measure your old back set. To do this you will need a tape measure. Hook the end of the tape measure onto the latch side of the latch side of the back set and measure to the center hole of the back set. It should be either 2 3/8 or 2 ¾.

To install the new one first slide the new back set into position and install the two screws that hold it there. Next install the front part of the knob by sliding it though the back set. Next slide the back part of With the front and back part of the knob in position you can now install the two screws that hold the knob to the door. Once you have those two screws snugged down we can test it to make sure it functions properly. Turn each knob and ensure that it moves the back set. Also lock the knob if it’s a privacy to ensure that also works. If the knob functions correctly then push the door closed and see if it does indeed latch. Sometimes when you are done installing the new door knob it may need adjustment. We can adjust it when we are replacing it. This one lines up and the door latches so we can remove the two screws and replace it with the new one. Once you have the new strike plate installed you can shut the door again to ensure that it latches.

That’s it you have just replaced an interior door knob because it didn’t work properly or you wanted to change the finish to give your house a new and modern look.

Hey there would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re
using? I’m planning to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a tough time making a decision between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs
and I’m looking for something completely unique.
P.S Sorry for being off-topic but I had to ask!

Hello, I am using WordPress. As with all of them they have free layouts and some that you have to pay for. That’s alright, Good luck on your blog.
